Pearland, TX – November 18, 2024 – The Leadership Pearland Class of 2025 recently
held its highly anticipated Pearland Day. It provided an engaging and informative
experience for its participants as they explored local government operations, community
resources, and essential public services throughout the city.
The day began at Pearland City Hall. They enjoyed breakfast before being welcomed by
key city officials from various departments. The City Manager’s Office representatives,
including Trent Epperson, Ron Fraser, and Victor Brownlees, shared insights into their
roles, while Frances Aguilar and Gladis Sanchez from the City Secretary's Office
provided an overview of their responsibilities. Joshua Lee spoke from the
Communications department, and Vance Wyly represented Community Development,
offering valuable information about their respective functions.
After a morning of engaging discussions, the group moved on to the Delores Fenwick
Nature Center. Participants explored the Parks Department and Natural Resources and
enjoyed a guided tour of the Nature Center, including several fascinating exhibits, and
introductions to the staff, followed by a lunch break.
The afternoon continued with a visit to the Freedom Drive Complex, where attendees
were given an overview of the 911 Dispatch Center and the Police Department. They
then toured the Shari D. Coleman Animal Services Center, learning about the city’s
animal welfare initiatives.
Next, the group arrived at Fire Station #4 for an overview and tour of the Fire
Department, which highlighted the important services provided to the community. The
final stop was the Service Water Treatment Plant, where participants learned about the
city’s utilities during an informative tour.
The day concluded as they returned to City Hall, allowing participants some downtime in
the Council Chambers to catch up on emails and engage in discussions. They later
enjoyed dinner with the City Council, followed by a recognition ceremony to honor their
commitment to community service.
"Pearland Day was a valuable experience for the Leadership Pearland Class of 2025,
allowing us to connect with city departments and gain a deeper understanding of the
vital services they provide to our community,” stated a representative from Leadership
Pearland. “We were thrilled to engage with city officials and leave with enhanced
knowledge of Pearland’s operations, challenges, and successes."
