Pearland, TX – The Leadership Pearland class of 2025 recently embarked on a day-long exploration of
Pearland's vibrant business community. The emerging leaders, representing various Pearland
companies, gained valuable insights into local industries and the collaborative efforts driving the city’s
growth.
The day began with a firsthand look at the Pearland Chamber of Commerce’s October board meeting.
Board members discussed key initiatives, including advocacy for a mental health hospital facility in
Brazoria County.
Subsequently, the class toured CopStop, a local business providing uniforms and products to law
enforcement agencies and first responders. Founded by Pearland native and former police officer Rick
Fernandez, CopStop has grown from a small storefront to a nationwide operation.
The leadership group then visited two major employers in the Lower Kirby area: Merit Medical, a Utah-
based medical device manufacturer, and Endress+Hauser & Vector Controls. At Endress+Hauser &
Vector Controls, Larry Sims, Senior Vice President of Vector Controls, led a discussion on what it means
to be a leader.
Additionally, Pearland Economic Development Corporation President Matt Buchanan provided an
overview of the Pearland Prosperity Plan, the community’s economic development strategic plan, and
highlighted recent progress toward its 11 Key Initiatives.
The day continued with a visit to Koza’s Inc., a local promotional items company. The class toured the
embroidery and screen-printing operations and learned about the process of producing championship
hats for Major League Baseball.
The Leadership Pearland class also gained insights into the Pearland Chamber of Commerce from
President and CEO Jim Johnson and the Pearland Innovation Hub (PIH), Pearland’s small business
resource, from PIH Navigator and fellow class member Sonia Cacique.
By the end of the day, the class had a deeper understanding of Pearland’s thriving business community
and the collaborative efforts between public and private sectors to foster industry and opportunity.
The Leadership Pearland class of 2025 extends its gratitude to the numerous businesses that opened
their doors to provide valuable insights.
